Russell Reynolds Associates

Russell Reynolds Associates, a preeminent global leadership advisory and search firm, embarked on a transformative journey to redesign their office space, drawing inspiration from the functionality and aesthetic of luxurious airport lounges. Given the unique challenge of creating a space that embodies both luxury and practicality, this project was approached with a meticulous blend of strategic planning and creative design.

PREPARATION STAGE

In undertaking the project for Russell Reynolds Associates, the emphasis was on precise preparation and alignment with the client's vision from the onset. Fortuitously, the project timeline allowed for thorough development of initial layouts and design concepts, bolstered by weekly meetings that facilitated a dynamic exchange of ideas and feedback.

The client briefed us with a clear and ambitious mandate: to metamorphose their existing office space into a high-end environment reminiscent of an opulent airport lounge. The aesthetic directive was to incorporate natural materials extensively throughout the design. Engineered wood parquet, marble, and veneer claddings were selected to bring this vision to life, setting a sophisticated tone across the office landscape.

PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS

Russell Reynolds Associates’ office was initially a Category-A fitted space, complete with pre-existing finishes such as sophisticated flooring and lighting systems. The challenge was to integrate and repurpose these elements seamlessly into the new design. Our approach enabled us to strategically relocate some of the existing lighting fixtures, ensuring they aligned with the new design aesthetics while also adhering to sustainability principles by minimizing waste.

DESIGN EXECUTION AND MATERIALS

Key materials were instrumental in defining both the functionality and the aesthetic of the project. Optima glass partitions were employed to strike a perfect balance between openness and privacy, ensuring that while the space remained visually connected, there was still sufficient isolation for confidential discussions. Flooring played a pivotal role, with Bolon and Interface carpet solutions chosen for their durability and visual appeal, which significantly enhanced the overall ambiance of the office. Autex Panels were also strategically installed in phone booths to provide acoustic privacy, essential in the bustling office environment.
The office layout was carefully designed to accommodate various needs and activities. It included multiple seating arrangements that encouraged social interaction while also supporting individual work. A coffee area was strategically located at the reception, offering a warm welcome to visitors and a casual space for employees to gather. Height-adjustable workstations were incorporated to promote ergonomic comfort, reflecting the company’s commitment to employee well-being. Moreover, built-in phone booths were included to offer staff a private space for calls, ensuring functionality was woven seamlessly with the luxurious design elements.

HIGHLIGHTED FEATURES

The project showcased extensive custom joinery work which became a focal point of the design. From the reception’s curved ceiling that seamlessly transitions into the walls and floors, to the grooved veneer panels and fabric acoustic panels in the boardrooms, each element was crafted with precision. The office also featured high-quality loose furniture predominantly from Herman Miller, adhering to the client’s global furnishing standards.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

The project culminated in a space that exudes a high-end atmosphere, effectively reflecting the sophistication of an airport lounge while maintaining functional office dynamics. The use of rich materials and strategic design elements facilitated a luxurious yet comfortable working environment.
The transformation was met with enthusiastic approval from Russell Reynolds Associates, who felt that the new office design not only met but exceeded their expectations in creating a space that employees and visitors could enjoy and appreciate.
